I am on Windows, so not sure this applies to you, but I found nVidia ShadowPlay screen recorder to shut down Fusion on startup when enabled. As soon as I disabled ShadowPlay, Fusion started up normally.
I actually found this out by hooking MSVS debugger on Fusion executable and checking what it crashes on. It crashed on some library from GeForce Experience software, which once I googled, pointed me to ShadowPlay.
It also crashes 3ds Max randomly, so I reported it to nVidia, but I got reply from the usual India tech support telling me to do re-install of drivers even though that was #1 on the list of things I already tried written in my original report to them. :/
