Here's a real quick music video I shot on the UM 4.6k EF a few weekends ago. I rented the Mini for a corporate shoot on a Monday, so I had the camera all weekend and decided to knock out a music video for my roommate's band's forthcoming debut album. It was a real fly by night shoot. We pretty much just walked into the woods with a bare bones idea and a couple of halloween masks and built the story on the fly.

Shot in 2k 16:9 ProRes HQ; Nikon 17-35 f2.8 typically at either f5.6 or f4. I used a NiSi 0.9 IRND filter for the majority of the shots, except the end beach shot, where I dropped down to a 0.3 Skier IRND.

Edited and colored in Resolve.

Ursa MINI 4.6K - XEEN 24mm - 21:9 Ultrawide

PostWed Feb 15, 2017 5:52 pm

Thought I'd share a quick test clip I filmed with the URSA Mini 4.6k and the XEEN Cinema Lens 24mm last year from a project releasing soon. This was filmed on the original firmware so keep that in mind. There was some FPN that I cleaned up in post. When uploaded on YouTube, the colors shifted slightly, so I'll be uploading this on Vimeo later tonight to be viewed proper and will update the link :)

In the meantime, here it is on YouTube :

Blackmagic URSA Mini 4.6K | Xeen 24mm Cinema Lens EF
Filmed in 4.6K 4608x2592 RAW - FILM - Sensor 60 Project 24 | Scaled to 3440x1440 21:9 YUV (Ultrawide) in post | Graded with Lumetri + DELUTS

Cinematography, Editing, & Color Grading : Neil Karunatilaka
Model : Janna Breslin - http://www.jannabreslin.com
Location : Coronado Beach - San Diego, CA

Filmed in July of 2016 with the original URSA Mini Firmware. Slight FPN corrected in post due to early firmware. This has since been corrected (less noticeable) with latest firmware release.

May not be reuploaded without permission.

I'm currently in France and I took a few shots with my Ursa Mini 4.6K. Doesn't this place look like Minas Tirith from "Lord of the Rings: Return of the King"? :)

In honor of Troy singing on The Voice tonight I'm going to share these two music videos that I shot for him with Blackmagic Cameras. Both have been shared here before, but I figured it's worth re-sharing them to remind everyone about his incredible voice. Hopefully he does really well on The Voice tonight. Check it out!

Rosary:

(Shot with Blackmagic Cinema Camera 2.5K in 2014 with Rokinon Cine Lenses, Tokina 11-16mm, and some Minolta lenses with an adapter)

Song Man:

(Shot with URSA Mini 4.6K Beta Unit in 2016 with Rokinon Cinema Lenses)

Enjoy reliving these music videos! And, please check out The Voice tonight to see if you can catch Troy perform.

EDIT: I guess Troy wasn't on last night, but will be on. I'm not familiar with the Voice format as I've never watched the show. He's definitely on this season. The previews show him, so I know he's on. Probably tonight or Thursday night. I'll keep everyone informed. Still enjoy the videos. Song Man was shot 1-year ago as of last night.

Just thought I would share my proof of concept trailer that I shot back in December last year, all shot of the URSA Mini 4.6k with mostly Samyang Primes, would love to hear your thoughts.

Hey Riccardo,

Thanks for your feedback on my film, this is great too, love the mood and lighting, good job my friend!!!

I had a music video released yesterday too all shot on the URSA Mini 4.6k which you can find on Vevo, the editor has slightly over graded it imo but hey that was out of my control and was prob to do with the style the band wanted.

Would love to hear your thoughts!

Excellent matching of the music to the disparate clips. Very good calling card, James. Lots of lovely dramatic postcards.

In terms of some constructive criticism, I noticed a few of the edits are held too long. For a show reel, it's best to try to cut the moment the clip reaches its maximum impact; if held beyond that point, the impact can fade since we don't have the context to understand the subtle expressions and message that may be evident after the climax when one sees it within the whole context. Just one example, would be the girl throwing liquid at the lens: cut at the impact.

Hey Rick,

Thanks for taking a look and giving your advice, I do agree with you in many aspects, to be totally honest I have found it very difficult to cut as its for myself and whatever I do I will always think I could do better.

I guess its that thing us creatives always have, its took me 10 years to shoot work I am fairly pleased with to be fair so this reel has been a long time coming.

Have a great weekend.

James, it was worth the struggle. You can be proud of that work. And then do better. As many people have mentioned, it's when we fail, we ultimately succeed. Without failure, there can be no success. Personally, I fail every time I shoot!

Lovely, Patrick. Colour is a matter of taste. If it tastes good, go. Given the subject, the muted treatment is fine. Another time, you'll dazzle us with another look.

Hi all,

Here's a trailer for a feature length documentary I have been working on in the past 2 years.
It was shot mostly with the fabulous Pocket cam:

Hope you will like it.
We are planning to distribute in the next few months.

Gabor, a labour of love and it shows. Very difficult subject. Best of luck with it.

Okay, I did this one for fun. I shot this footage over two days. One was Thanksgiving Day, and that was mainly the footage of the flowers and the rose. I have a lot more footage from that day, but that will be part of a different video. The other day was really an afternoon, and it was at a nearby pond. The footage has been sitting on a hard drive, so I finally decided to edit something.

All of the footage was shot 4.6K RAW 4:1 on the URSA Mini 4.6K at 23.98 fps. I used a variety of Firecrest NDIR filters. All of it was Rokinon Cinema Lenses. Probably 24, 35, 50, 85, and 135 if I remember right. I don't think I used my 16 Rokinon for any of this footage.

Editing was done in Premiere Pro. What? Yeah, I know. However, I needed to put the proxies on a travel drive and work off my laptop. At this time Premiere is better at moving between multiple computers because you can have the project file on the travel drive and copy it over to the main drive plugged into the iMac when you wish to work there. It was convenience. Hopefully Resolve 13 helps make it easier to do the same so I can leave Premiere. Otherwise, all the footage was graded in DaVinci Resolve, and the title was made in Resolve.

Enjoy:

P.S. During my free time I will be creating other vignettes of footage I've shot on my leisure time. I have quite a bit more.
