Canon HF G30/G40 Decklink Duo 2 no stable 1080p50

PostFri Mar 03, 2017 11:32 pm

Hello,

I have a PC setup with one Decklink Duo 2 and the following components:

Canon Legria (Vixia) HF G30 -> BMD HDMI to SDI converter -> Decklink Duo 2 port
Canon Legria (Vixia) HF G40 -> BMD Hdmi to SDI converter -> Decklink Duo 2 port

I am not able to get a stable 1080p50 signal on any of the Decklink ports in Media Express. Sometimes a short picture flickering, but no stable video feed. When I switch the cameras to 1080i50 or 720p50 I have a stable feed on Media Express.

I changed:
SDI cables
BMD HDMI to SDI converters with liqoo HDMI to SDI converters
HDMI cable from cameras to converter.

When I plug both Canon cameras to my Samsung TV I get a stable 1080p50 image.
When I change one of the Canon HF cameras with a Canon EOS 80D DSLR I get a stable 1080p50 video feed on Media Express on PC.

So it's definitley the combination of Canon HF G30/G40 and Decklink Duo 2 with 1080p50.

I would appreciate any help.

Edit:
Sorry, but I have to correct myself. The Canon menue does not contain any image rates. There's only 1080p, 1080i, etc. with no frame numbers. From another forum I have the hint that these cameras probably do not output 50p at 1080p. But that does not explain why my TV shows 50p.

Hi Andreas Fiebig.

I have same issue and posted on this forum but still waiting for approval.

I have bought two canon LEGERIA HF G40 and when using HDMI 1080p50 works fine but as soon as I use micro converter and SDI nothing works.

But I tried my GH4 camera with micro converter and SDI and it works fine.

So I am confused should I explore further with G40 or should I returned these.

Please let me know if you make them working.

Kind Regards,
Fayyaz

Andreas, the technical specs at the Canon website say that the HF G40 does:
AVCHD
1.920 x 1.080 50p 28 Mbps
1.920 x 1.080 50i/25p 24 Mbps, 17 Mbps
1.440 x 1.080 50i/25p 5 Mbps

MP4
1.920 x 1.080: 50p 35 Mbps
1.920 x 1.080: 25p 24 Mbps, 17 Mbps
1.280 x 720: 25p 4 Mbps
640 x 360: 25p 3 Mbps

And the HDMI output is v1.3 which supports up to 2560 × 1440p @ 60 Hz

Things you might check:

Is the camera output set to AUTO? If yes try a fixed setting:
https://support.usa.canon.com/kb/index? ... =ART164123

You might also try to set the output to 1080i but have the camera at 1080p50 recording.
Saying "Thx for help!" is not a crime.

Hello,

thanks Robert.
I already checked this and also any kind of configuration option on the Canon cameras.
When I set the cameras to 1080i I get 1080i on Decklink, also if I set recording to 1080p. No difference if I set recording to MP4 or AVCHD. 1080i works fine, but I Like to have 1080p.

Fayyaz Ahmed,

it sounds like the very same problem. Which kind of Decklink card do you have? Decklink Duo 2 doesn't have HDMI inputs.

I sent a support request to canon and Blackmagic. I will see what happens.

Andreas.

OK, have response from Canon.
The Canon HF G30/40 definitely outputs 1080p50 over HDMI when camera is set to 1080p.

And because it is also not working with liqoo HDMI-SDI converters I don't think that the BMD converters are the problem.

The only part in this chain which was not changed is the Decklink Duo 2.

Will try it with a Mini Recorder.

Anyone?

A 1080p50 or a 1080i50? More likely given the age of the camera, it outputs a 1080i50/60 signal, when set to 1080p?
Cheers

Hei Denny,
it must be 1080p50 with HF G30 and HF G40.
My TV shows that.
Another user stated it with Atem Television Studio HD over HDMI (only works without HDMI-SDI converter).
Canon support told it.

Good, glad you got it sorted. According to Robert, in his post above, the HDMI should support that data rate.

Ok, like stated here: viewtopic.php?f=18&t=56949&start=50
the problem was solved with a converter update. Now it runs fine. I never got a helpful response for my ticket from BMD support to this problem.

Just to end up this thread.
