I have and use high bandwidth USB cables, no issues with USB 2 or 3. I would definitely get good new USB 3/hig bandwth cables, should solve your problems.
uhm... please let me know why i need to use a usb 3.0 cable on 2.0 device? usb 3.0 shouldn't be compatible in all to usb 2.0?
if i can't use 2.0 cable like i can do with printer, scanner, many usb 2.0 device, webcam, and more... why usb 3.0 cable have same port? is a industry mistake that i'm compatible with usb 2.0 device, but only with usb 3.0 cable (that i cannot use in their high bandwidth be cause i connect to 2.0 device).
i just aware that there are many troubles between hard disk and many motherboard due the chipset incompatibility between hd controllers and motherboard controllers, but no one talk me about i must use usb 3.0 cable only.
if is this the problem, i'm happy to solve in that way, but i'm afraid again about usb3.0 lack of quality in the standard.
