Renaming Sources/Destinations for Videohub

PostWed Mar 15, 2017 3:23 pm

Hello,

I'm wondering how to rename the Source and Destination in the Videohub. I'm using 6.3.4 and I can click on Edit Buttons but that only lets me change the icon and not the actual name. Where is that done?

The VideoHub Setup program will let you change settings, but will not change routing. The VideoHub control program will let you change routing, but not any settings.

Also, try using Telnet.
On Mac (google PC directions for establishing telnet) . . .
In terminal, type
telnet X.X.X.X 9990
(Where X.X.X.X is your router's IP address)

then type the port, a space, then the names you want in a text editor. Then cut/paste into terminal/telnet window with "OUTPUT LABELS:" at the top like so:

OUTPUT LABELS:
0 name 1
1 name 2
2 name 3
3 name 4
4 name 5
5 name 6
6 name 7
7 name 8
8 name 9
9 name 10
10 name 11

Note that the SDI Ports start with zero instead of 1

You can then maintain all of the naming in a text file, change when needed, edit, and change again very easily. The telnet capability makes it very easy to manage all of this, and make changes all at once.

You can also do the input labels like so:

INPUT LABELS:
0 CAM 1 01
1 CAM 2 02
2 CAM 3 03
3 CAM 4 04
71 BARS
10 VTR 1 11
11 VTR 2 12
29 S4 Stream 30
30 Fiber 1 Stream
31 Fiber 2 Stream
32 Fiber 3 Stream

Note that you can add in non-sequential items, and change only the items you want to change.

I am able to connect over IP to my 40x40 hub but only from the Software control software. The Videohub software does not find the hub - thus, I cannot rename the buttons. We have a whole new setup this year, and if I can't rename the buttons my students will be eternally confused and messing things up. HELP ME please!!!

Beckyhoch: I'm not sitting in front of our Videohubs at the moment, but I believe that you can't change the labels/buttons through IP. I think you have to connect by USB and use the Setup software to make those changes (the same way you would update the firmware). And then disconnect the USB and operate the videohub over IP with the software or with the hardware switches, as usual.

The modern video hubs with Ethernet can have labels set with the setup program or IP connection.
I also wrote a handy program to spit out the router configuration in an Excel table.
