Level A 3G-SDI to HDMI

PostMon Apr 17, 2017 1:05 pm

I have a bunch of Micro converters. I love them i can set them to work in level A and B they are small an very flexible. But i have some issues whit them. The HDMI to SDI converter nicely converts a HDMI 1080/50p signal to a 3G-SDI 1080/50p signal but if i want to convert the 3G-SDI 1080/50p back to HDMI 1080/50p i have som problems. The micro converters just suport 1080/50i on HDMI out...? So i thought that to miniconvereter could do it for me, but the mini converters don't suport 3G-SDI level A. So how do you people convert 3G-SDI level A to HDMI 1080/50p?

Generally with a Decimator MD-HX, unless we're out of them.

32GB DDR4-3600
RTX 3090
DeckLink 4K Extreme 12G
Resolve Studio 17.4.1

I am constantly out of them. I can't seem to have enough of these amazing little boxes. Ordering three more from B&H as soon as the current Jewish holiday is over and they are taking orders again.

With the latest firmware update (7.0.8), the Mini Converter SDI to HDMI 4K now supports 3G SDI Level A input signals.

And actually, I had thought that I've gotten the SDI to HDMI Micro Converter to output a 1080p5994 signal over HDMI at some point (with a 3G SDI input). But maybe I'm mis-remembering things.

Pretty much anything but BMD converter will do P properly. I'd always get more decimators too if you have the budget as they are the best ones on the market. But if you need really cheap converters for non critical monitoring feeds then the Oupree ones are good value and work well. Even the £25 ones from Amazon are ok at a push.

Great! Will they auto detect A or B or do you have to set it up for A or B?

The micro converter is a bit tricky. I converted hdmi 1080/50p to 3G-SDI and back to HDMI using two micro converters, my Small HD 502 screen read the signal as a 50p signal but I could really see the interlace whit some jumping pixels.

The SDI to HDMI Mini Converters should auto detect the 3G SDI Level on input. I don't think there is a setting in the converter utility software to set the input signal format.
