Choppy playback in V12.5.5

PostFri Apr 21, 2017 8:22 am

I'm running Win10 on a 6-core AMD processor with 16Gb RAM and an NVIDIA GTX760 graphics board.

Playing any sort of video clip on the Media or Edit pages produces a very choppy movement of the playhead, to the extent that transitions are missed and/or the view port is not updated until play is stopped. This did not occur in 12.5.4.

I've uninstalled and re-installed, to no avail.

Oddly, playback on the Color page runs without any problem.

Has anyone got any ideas what might be causing it?

I am thinking 16gb is just not enough RAM, Resolve places alot of data in RAM while editing (both computer RAM and video card RAM). HD speed maybe also be the reason, are you using SSDs?

I have the same projects that ran perfectly with 12.5.4. I have taken a clean project and added a single image with the same choppy result.
I have installed Resolve on a laptop with 4Gb RAM and have no such problem.

Yes, I am. The system is installed on a 256Gb SSD.

The preferences on both systems are identical

After further investigation, I notice that I've gathered 2 additional icons in the bottom right hand corner of the Resolve window. I have no idea where they've come from or what they're for - they seem to have no function. They also seem to be "ghosts", when I click on one of the icons, I initiate the project options (the options icon is overlayed by the "ghost" icons)
I'm not sure if I have enough posts to allow me to post a url to a screenshot of the icons, but I'll post it anyway in the hope that, if I don't, someone with rights could post it for me.

Could this be what is causing the choppy playback?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Those are nVidia ShadowPlay icons. So, I guess ShadowPlay thinks Resolve is a game?

I believe that I may have found the cause of the choppy playback.

It seems that there is an incompatibility with the freeware iobit Malware Fighter. As soon as I stop the three processes, the playback becomes smooth again.
