Radeon and Resolve experiences?

PostMon May 15, 2017 3:34 pm

I'm planning on purchasing a GPU for my grading station soon, and debating between an NVidia 1080Ti based card and one of the new Radeon Pro Duos (dual WX7100 model w/ 16GB each).

Anyone have any experiences with current Radeon cards and Resolve able to comment? How well do they perform?

The main reason I'm considering the Pro Duo is that I only have one PCIe slot available, so it's a way to get a 2nd card in my box, and not much more expensive.

Thanks!

Although quite different to what you are looking at, I use a RX470 8GB - no problems to speak of.

Really only working in HD though - a lot of it 4k material down sized.

one question I'd have with the Pro Duo is could there be an issue with it not being able to fully utilize the 2 GPU's due to only one PCIE? just a thought.

That is a good question. I was suspecting that AMD went with the large frame buffer approach to work around exactly that, but that's just a guess.

From what I have read, AMD was showcasing the Radeon Pro Duo at NAB using Resolve as one of the apps. If it wasn't effective, they wouldn't showcase it.

That's what I'm thinking, especially since BMD was listed as one of the partners that AMD was presenting with. The Radeon site is remarkably shy on information about the Pro Duo though, I keep finding links to the older models, but not the new on that's supposed to be shipping Any Minute Now (tm).

I have Radeon Sapphire R9 380. 12.5 was pretty slow, but 14B1 just flying. No problem with realtime preview for h256!
