brain dead idea devs

PostMon Jun 19, 2017 8:00 pm

Removing color science that has been in a program for over a year is about as brain dead an idea as I can think of. So unless BlackMagic intends to make it possible to install 2 versions of the APP you have probably created an insane amount of work for no good reason. Doesn't matter if was good bad whatever. I have a show that the DIT for 3 seasons used Davinci ACES. All that work is now useless. Looks built off the onset looks is just GONE or we never upgrade. NEVER. What kind of stupid is that? Yeah being very very blunt. STUPID IDEA.

Yes they removed ALL PREVIOUS VERSIONS OF ACES. So Nothing that was graded in ACES pre 14 will work AT ALL in 14. Well if the project is recent and done in CC CCT and ACES 1.0.2 you might be ok. If was done PRE 1.0.2 or the DIT used DAVINCI ACES then you are stuck in 12 forever.

Seems they decided that it was dead-end path of ACES evolution

LOL well since ACES prior to 1 will not work in ACES after 1 thats kind of an issue. DEAD OR NOT It was part of the SCIENCE. It can be hidden or whatever. But if you can't open a project from pre 14 without color shifts then they should figure out how to have 2 installs on the same system or PUT THE OPTIONS BACK HIDDEN OR NOT.

Go ask Joseph if he remembers SABINE. We were at RIT at the Same Time. I'm no Joseph but we studied Color Science at the same UNIV with the same professors just in Different Dept. (Well I was a Senior his first year.) EVEN ADOBE doesn't kill old technology. It just get hidden and Adobe is the worst about changing how stuff works.

Sounds like you are going to learn how to set up a virtual machine!

Oh thats a more brilliant plan for huge post houses. That won't slow down work at all or increase system cost. :-/ All to save 2MB of disk space by BM.

what are you a hobbiest? Really, a VM for a/ALL grading systems at FOX? That should umm NOT WORK.

Since you want to be a donkeys back side lets get this right out in the open.

Yes I'm just a hobbyist when it comes to editing. However professionally I'm a developer, who also knows a decent amount of enterprise level IT.......

Based on your obnoxious posts on this thread and PM to me it sure sounds like you're nothing more than a giant child who just wanted to come here and piss and moan because the world doesn't work exactly how you want it to.

Hey guys, lets keep the conversation civil.

We removed the old DaVinci ACES for number of reasons.
We understand that some will not like that and they will need to use 12.5.5 for legacy projects.

I'm locking the thread to prevent the discussion getting more personal.
