Problems with xml import and resolve not finding files

PostFri Mar 01, 2013 10:46 am

I am using fcp X 1.07 to export xml.
When I try to import the project into resolve 9.1.1 it gives me an error i.e.: "8 of 8 clips were not found. Do you want to select another folder to search?".
The next panel offers to create new folders but I can't seem to find a way to add a folder or local link to this.
I have also tried to use Xto7 to create a better xml but still with the same result. Tried to uninstall and reinstalled resolve light but again same mistake.
Any idea what the problem might be?

some diagnosis that you can do

1) make a screenshot of what you see
2) assemble without clips, see at the EDL of the timeline: do you have any clip in your media pool where tepe/timecode match?
3) is the media pool coherent with the FCP database?

Give some info and we can help (a bit)

I have just tried to export one single clip and still da vinci gives me the message that it can't find the clip. I am not seeing any timecode information in fcpx for my clip...

try to load/link the material in the media pool first then use the EDL/XML...

(there is enough info in the manual to help you with this operation..)

This error message may have nothing to do with missing files. It does happen whenever you have unsupported files. I frequently receive material for grading that generates these errors. Converting the offending files to a format that Resolve supports fixes the issue right away. Examples are jpeg and png images, unsupported codecs (in a ProRes project a Motion JPEG quicktime, for instance), animated shapes native to the editing software, nested sequences, etc.

I'm no longer using FCP, but anytime you ask for help one of the first things you should post
is your system specifications, FCP Version, OSX version etc, This will speed up any reply from Blackmagic support team.

Cheers

I am having this same issue. HELP!

I am editing in Premiere. I use the standard work flow I use on my mac.

1. Put the edit in a new sequence without any effects and name it "color"
2. Export final cut xml out of premiere pro cs6
3. Import XML final cut into Resolve and select the sequence resolve

Usually at this point it prompts me to "Please select the folder containing source clips to be imported"

Its not doing that and just stating that 9 of 9 or however many I am trying to import cannot be found.

When I try and choose. I am getting a blank grey box.

WarRoomInc, see if in the path of your files there is any illegal characters including spaces or weird symbols as start.

If you try to manually import one shot does it load in the media pool?
IF you open another instance of Premiere (possibly on another machine) can you re-conform without issue?

(I know that IS obvious what I'm asking but I'm trying to analyze the issue with standard diag inquires...)

If you link the media THEN open the XML, doe sit work?

I was having the same problem... I found out that if you drag all the files into your media pool... then try to load the xml... it will still say that it cannot find the clips... but if you press no... it will just work for some reason and the xml will be right next to your master timeline in the conform page... (dont know if this is key) but when I exported the Xml from fcpx I made the metadata to NONE. it was on basic... didnt try leaving it on basic.... ( PLEASE FIX THIS PROBLEM BLACKMAGIC ITS SUPER ANNOYING... I HAVE A BMCC IT SHOULD have no trouble detecting its own companys footage codec... Thanks

I am also having this problem! I have been using the lite version of DaVinci and was able to import the xml into the space to color grade no problem. I was able to import and xml with 4k footage and it read it but the lite version doesn't export anything above 1080. So I just bought the studio version and now that I am trying to import the footage it says it can't find the files. I have never had to have access to the source files for an xml to be read. Everything worked just fine until I bought the studio version so I could render in 4k. Help.

I had the same exact problem: while importing timeline from my favorite NLE (fcpx 10.6.5) I wasn't able to relink media. No way I could add my folder, nor select from a list!

SOLUTION: went to preferences / Media Storage and added the root for all of my external HDD to the list.

It works! Resolve is now able to import my fcpx xml into a new timeline and automatically link my media, even if it's on external hard drives! Magic!
