Micro Converter HDMI to SDI Not Producing Video

PostFri Sep 01, 2017 7:14 pm

I'm using my laptop set to HDMI output 1920x1080.
My laptop has a DisplayPort connector and I'm using an adapter to go to HDMI.
Going into the converter.
Converter is powered using the USB port of my PC. The power light comes on.
Going into an SDI input on a Sony MCS-8M switcher.
Switcher is set to 1080-59.
The laptop "sees" the Converter when connected via HDMI.
I downloaded the Converters setup program and updated the firmware.
The software "sees" the converter when connected via USB.

I am getting no SDI output from the converter to my switcher.

I need help!

This unit belongs to my job and is not currently being used, so it is not impacting anything there.

The problem is that I have directed my church to purchase 15 of these MicroConverters (Both HDMI-SDI and SDI-HDMI) to upgrade our system, as part of a $15,000 purchase of mostly BMD equipment. I need to know these will work, or I will have to replace them with something else, blow out my budget, extend the timeline, and look like a fool.

Perhaps this is a bad unit, but How would I know? Has anyone else had this problem?

It says on the spec sheet for this switcher it supports HD-SDI, not 3G-SDI, so you need 1080i59.94, not 1080p59.94.
Ryzen 5800X3D
32GB DDR4-3600
RTX 3090
DeckLink 4K Extreme 12G
Resolve Studio 17.4.1
Windows 11 Pro 21H2

Simple test.. Set your Laptop back to 720P and mixer too.. Check if you get signal.. ;)
Getting 1080i from a laptop is a nightmare in some instances..

Your mixer supports the following resolutions and framerates.. But if you input 1080 to the converter it will output 3G-SDI 1080P.. Which is not supported by this old mixer..

I tried your suggestion, still nothing. I also tried a BlueRay deck as well and still nothing. What we need here is a true SDI monitor. I guess I'll make that suggestion to my manager.

Thanks for your input.
