Interlaced video problem from Hyperdeck Shuttle 2

PostWed Sep 06, 2017 8:41 am

Dear forum Users!

First of all, I want to say hello to everyone here.

I'm having a problem with a video, captured with DSLR by the Hyperdeck Shuttle 2. It seems that when I pan fast, some frames look as if they are interlaced (lines are moved in relation to each other) - see the image below.

I'm recording with the Canon 5D mark III in 1080p25, but the same problem occurs with my Sony A7s.

Do you have any idea why it's happening and how I can fix that?

Best Regards,
Radek K.

5D HDMI out format isn't the same setting as the recording format. It sounds like it's on 50i right now.

Canon and Sony cameras do not output 1080p signals, only interlace at 1080, so when you set the camera to 1080p25, a2:2 (2:3 for 24fps) pulldown is applied and the resulting signal is put in an interlace wrapper to get a 1080i50 signal. This goes back to when hdmi and SDI did not have the bandwidth to support a 1080p signal. Even the Canon C100/300 do this.

Canon and Sony cripple their DSLR ps intentionally to protect their high end (more expensive) camera designed to support Cine/Broadcast productions. You can onkymrecord 1080p24-60 internally, the HDMI output is their for external monitoring only, not to support higher end recording. You can remove the pull down in most NLE editing programs and restore it back to 1080p24/25, but their will be some signal quality loss.

Thank you, I will try to remove the pull down. Do you know if it is possible to do it in Resolve?
