How to map transport keys on italian keyboard?

PostTue Oct 10, 2017 10:13 am

I'm trying to access the transport shortcuts from my italian keyboard on a Windows system.
The original mapping is '[' and ']' but no way i manage to make them working.
Apart the fact that '[' and ']' in the italian keyboard are accessed in combination with the AltGr key... i tried the keyboard mapping tool and assigned the Seek+1 and Seek-1 actions to whatever else but it simply doesn't work. Tried for example to assign to keys 'J' and 'K' but nothing.
What i'm missing?
Thanks!

Never mind, got it.
I simply (1) misunderstood the hotkey manager behavior and (2) bound the wrong action to the keys.

Please share, what exactly did you do, i.e. what's the logic behind remapping keys in keyboard mapping tool... I'd love to have frame fwd/bckwd mapped to PgUp and PgDown or Ctrl+left and Ctrl+right to match After Effects....

Well, at first i tought that all keyboard mapping in Fusion were global. Than's not true.

You can define shortcuts that are active when specific UI elements are in focus.
For example, if you want to define a shortcut that acts only when timeline has focus, you choose in the "Target" tree the "Timeline" node and define the shortcut there.
But if, like me, you want to be able to move to next/previous frame regardless where you focused (say you are refining a mask and need to keyframe it frame by frame), better if you define the shortcuts in the parent node, the "Views" node. This way the sortcut will be active regardless the View "type" has focus.

For the actions: i bound "Step backward"/"Step forward" to my J/K keys and i'm happy.

Of course it's intuitive once you read the tree header which says "Target". I didn't read it at first because i tought that, like other apps, the tree were the "Available actions" tree, not where to apply them

My fault.

Hey Umberto,

I've had hard times too with hotkeys, but the problem is... I'm still having some after your recommendations. :? I also miss something basic but what ?

Issue one : (see attachment) Even after mapping what you see, nothing works...
Issue two : I don't know how to create a new one (i.e. if I didn't find the action I need)

Finally I just want to map classic NLEs "J K L" for "play reverse - stop - play ahead", go to previous key /next key on shift + > and shift + w so far...
An idea ?

Try selecting the "Views" node instead of the "Timeline" node. You macro will have a broader effect on the user interface.
By creating a new hotkey just press the "New" button on the bottom part of the hotkeys panel.
Then you can choose the action and the key to bind that action (in the upper part of the panel). Just click on the "<Enter key sequence>" field then press the key combination you want to tie to the action. For the action, navigate the left tree and choose the actions group. then select the action you want frm the right panel.

Haha, thx a looot :D
For me, Views was the title of a group below, I didn't notice that "new..." was available down below even when we select this "title". Now it's ok.

Secondly, I also didn't pay attention to the sign (see attachment) to fine tune the actions. On my attachment, I've selected Views then New yet, then Action > Playback, and it's already open to show up the right column cos' I've found it out; but before clicking it, when it's closed (and therefore the column invisible), it's not so obvious. Even more as this way of tweaking hotkeys in Fusion is not the same in every pieces of software.

Anyway, thx again for your answer, I'm looking forward to adapting it to my needs. So it's ok too on my french mac keyboard ;)
