Workflow using FCPX, Fusion, AE, and Rseolve

PostTue Oct 17, 2017 5:06 pm

Hi folks,

I am new to Fusion and Resolve. Trying to figure out workflow for an independent music video with over 300 shots (most of them very short) where a number of them will be composited with organic forms and audio-reactive particles. These shots already have in-out points in FCPX, but editing has not started yet. Some test composites were conducted using AE with Tarpcode/Audio React.

Would it be crazy to export each shot from FCPX using the in-out points (not rough cuts yet), composite them in Fusion, and edit them back in FCPX, with final color grading in Resolve? Add AE into the mix as well.

Resolve has editing capabilities but I don't know if I can ramp up quickly.

What would be the most efficient approach? Thoughts?

a common workflow would be to edit your piece, lock down the shots you need, and then worry about all the compositing after the edit is locked.

Sending 300 shots out to get treated, only to later decide you are dropping 10, 20, 50 or them, or extending some of them is not a great use of your resources.

It is very common to not have final vfx work for the initial edit.

You could edit the piece, send to Resolve for color, and from Resolve send to Fusion (or AE) for final comps to be done.

I wouldn't usually send off the vfx shots at stage one. Things always change.
