I figured out that when you install fonts in Ubuntu, they go into:
/home/youruser/.local/share/fonts
But Fusion looks in /usr/share/fonts
So you have to manually copy the fonts over to /usr/share/fonts
or go to Fusion Preferences Path Map and change the Fonts: entry to your local folder.
Even better, remove the fonts folder in /home/youruser/.local/share/ and make a symbolic link to the /usr/share/fonts folder
e.g.: ln -s '/usr/share/fonts' '/home/youruser/.local/share/fonts'
Also make sure that your user then has read and write access to /home/youruser/.local/share/font
