Choosing a server for collaboration

PostThu Nov 09, 2017 4:44 pm

Hello everyone.

Me and my co worker are thinking about setting about a server so we will be able to collaborate easily in premiere, but to be honest I don’t understand servers too well.

After doing some basic research, I was brought to the understanding that the LumaForge Jellyfish (https://lumaforge.com/jellyfish) was a highly recommended option, the cheapest one being ~$9000. This is probably the max my boss would be willing to spend, but if there is a cheaper option that can perform the same then that’s always better, right?

My server knowledge is extremely sub par, so please help me understand this. Is $9000 the minimum for what I’ll need to edit 4K (sometimes raw) footage from a server, or will I get by just fine with something like this (https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/ ... osure.html)?

We would be editing using two iMacs, one is a late 2016 model and the other a late 2017 model. I’m not at work right now so I don’t have the exact specs on them, but I’ll provide that if needed tomorrow if needed.

Please excuse my ignorance and educate me. Thanks
