Tech specs on gamma and gamut for URSA Mini Pro?

PostWed Nov 15, 2017 4:33 pm

Where might I find specific, technical information about the URSA Mini Pro's log gamma and wide gamut?

I believe I've done my due diligence by looking through the URSA Mini Pro manual and website, but I can't find any specifics. All I've found is some marketing language that the "Film" gamma is a kind of log gamma, and that the "Blackmagic" gamut is wider than Rec. 2020.

I would love to actually know what's going on with the R, G, and B primaries.

I would contact the BM Regional Support Office near you to get this type of technical info.
That said, gamma and Gamut settings are mire if a TV broadcast camera setting, and I believe the gamma on the UM Pro can be adjusted with the ATEM. Also, these setting are mostly used for making changes to the Rec 709 output. For film log and Raw recording, color gamut and gamma can be changed in Resolve.
Cheers

It was a thread on other forum and if i understand correctly BMD Film gamut is kind of undefined compare to other cameras and depends of white balance.

BMDfilm log gammas can be compared to others using this tool https://cameramanben.github.io/LUTCalc/ ... index.html

Thanks, LUTCalc is helpful for the gammas, even if it doesn't have any information for the gamuts.

This just raises the question though: where did Ben Turley get that information about the gammas?

Maybe from the 1D LUTs out of Resolve?

For the gamut it is possible to extract a color conversion matrix from Resolve by putting a image with three color patches (R, G, B) through resolve color management to convert for example from BMDfilm 4.6K to XYZ (Would use linear and 32bit EXR for this) and from this matrix it should be possible to estimate the virtual primaries of the colorspace. This way is demonstrated for example with REDcolor primaries in http://colour-science.org/posts/red-col ... erivation/
