Decklink mini recorder and Chromecast - only 720p?

PostTue Nov 21, 2017 9:24 am

Hello,

I wonder why my decklink mini recorder only picks up the chromecast at 720p59??? I have an HDMI splitter in between that does the HDCP stripping just fine. The splitter itself is not to blame - if I plug in the Chromecast via the very same splitter to my TV I get 1080p60Hz input indication. Any idea why the mini recorder won't go above 720p?

One other thing - even if I take out the splitter altogether and plug in the Chromecast directly into the capture card, I get the black screen naturally, but the resolution is again being reported at the low, low rate of 720p59 ....what's up with that?!

Thanks!

Thanks, this all makes sense now. Any way I can downgrade 1080p60 to 1080p30 ?

With a scaler like Decimator MD-HX you can.. Or set your chromacast to output 720P is a far cheaper option. ;)

Well, there's no way to set the chromecast output and there's no need - the 1080p60 is being picked up by decklink as 720p60.

It is not picked up as 720P. The EDID info tells the chromecast what resolutions it supports.. And the Chromecast adapts to the highest resolution / framerate that it can run based on the EDID info.

Your TV tells the Chromecast with it's EDID table it supports 1080P and so the chromecast goes into 1080P mode. ;)
