How to Import Project/DB in another resolve without export?

PostWed Dec 20, 2017 4:18 pm

I was in NY and I colored a project and flew out without exporting it - I just copied the directory with the project data, now I'm in L.A. and my Resolve here won't recognize it. (I cut and pasted it into the projects directory for guest) - I've tried a couple of things, but so far no luck.

Am I out of luck? I'm not sure I have anyone who can't export the project for me back in NY.

If you copied the project folder and pasted it into the appropriate folder on the 2nd computer, it should at least open the project (where are the media files?).

What exactly did you copy and where did you paste it?

C:\ProgramData\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve\Support\Resolve Disk Database\Resolve Projects

is the current home for the install here. I copied the whole Resolve Projects folder from NY onto a removable drive (and all the media which is still on the removable drive). I copied the project folder from the removable drive called Commercial to the path above - but for some reason my resolve doesnt see it at all!

All I can suggest is, create a project -- anything -- then save it and then locate the actual folder it resides in, to ensure you've drilled down to the correct level. It can be down 3 or 4 folders from "Resolve Projects".

The "path above" is not complete enough.

It's most likely you need to copy the project folder from your removable drive into the:

C:\ProgramData\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve\Support\Resolve Disk Database\Resolve Projects\Users\guest\Projects folder.

Are the Resolve versions the same on both ends? If the version you created the project on is significantly different from the version you are now on, the database formats may be different, and copying the project folder might not work.

This was the problem! I had different versions in LA and NY. I upgraded, and now it opened it with no problem as it upgraded the database!

Hurray!

I went from 16.2.1 -> 16.2 on new machine and I can't get ANY of my old projects to open via the DB folder.

There are no database changes in 16.2.

What exactly is happening? Can you see the projects, but they won't load when you select them?

Hi Dwayne - you answered this in my other post. thanks. otherwise no, nothing shows up in the project panel, and the restore or import functions want nothing to do with the old db files.
