Davinci Resolve External Monitoring

PostSun Jan 07, 2018 7:45 pm

I have a problem with my external monitor calibration via Ultrastudio mini monitor. I use DisplayCAL + i1Diplay, but I must do something wrong because my calibration LUT is purpule as hell.

1. My Setup: Macbook pro late 2016 15', Utrastudio mini monitor, HP Z27X moniotr via HDMI as external monitor.

2. I've connected HP to the Ultrastudio mini monitor and to the Macbook and the video feed from resolve is on the HP screen.

3. I've downloaded DisplayCAL, and proceeed from youtube tutorials. I've used setting preset (video 3D LUT for Resolve) I've provided address to connect and calibration screen appeard on the HP.

4. There is one small problem though. Before calibration there is this step with setting the balance and brightness of the monitor. On Z27X there is no RGB corrector (which is weird by the way), so I set only luminance and procced.

5. Calibartion was successful, so I saved a lut and applied it on the resolve project serttings in the 3D video monitoring Lookup Table section.

Result is always similar (pink, mangenta wierd colours - it looks like monochromatic with a magenta cast.
I need to solve this asap, I have some job at the end of next week and would appriciete your help.

I've tried to calibrate the HP z27x with a similar setup like yours without success. From what I understand the Dreamcolor engine in the HP z27x needs to be fed HDMI with true RGB 4:4:4 chroma subsampling to properly work. The Blackmagic Mini Monitor's HDMI out only provides YUV 4:2:2 at 8bit. So unfortunately that box is not fit to drive the display at it's full capacity. You need a DeckLink 4K Extreme or similar BM card that can provide 4:4:4. I ended up driving my monitor through display port, which works great with FCPX dual monitor mode, but unfortunately does not work as a proper external monitoring solution for color grading in resolve.
