Mini Monitor 4K > MiniCon SDI to HDMI 6G > Monitor

PostTue Jan 02, 2018 3:26 pm

So I have the BenQ SW271 as a UHD grading monitor.
It has hardware calibration, but only with BenQ's software "Palette Master", which gives you limited control.

So I found this workaround, and want to know if this will work:

My 'Decklink Mini Monitor 4K' connected to the new 'Mini Converter SDI to HDMI 6G' with SDI (which i don't have yet). And the 'Mini Converter SDI to HDMI 6G' connected with the monitor through HDMI 2.0.
Calibrate the monitor with CalMan and upload the LUT to the 'Mini Converter'.
In theory it should work, but would like to hear from you guys if I'm right.
And I have some concern about potential lag.

If this works it also opens up a great new way to get your client TV, of other consumer panel, to show some calibrated colors.

This is in basic were the LUT function in the miniconverter is designed for.

Have not yet tested this as we dont use luts in general..

This looks good to me as well, but the Mini Converter documentation, which is likely out of date, has nothing about LUT's.

Anyone know what LUT's are supported (likely Resolve)? And how they are loaded (USB)?

Cheers

Supports 33 point 3D LUT, I assume you load them over USB. Didn't notice the first time they posted the announcement that it can also apply LUTs to the SDI loop out.

Cheers.

So I finallly got around the setting this config up.
Adding a LUTs to the "Mini converter sdi to HDMI 6G" works nicely.
However i can't get a UHD signal out of this setup (premiere and resolve).
HD works fine.
Without the "Mini converter sdi to HDMI 6G" I did get a UHD signal out to my monitor.

I got a 1 meter long SDI (75ohm) between the decklink and the mini converter, and HDMI running from the miniconverter to the monitor.

What could be going wrong here?
I'm on a pc with the most recent software from BM installed.

Maybe LUTs can't be used with UHD signal?

Hey Andrew,

That can't be it, I did try it without the LUTs turned on.
