Desperate slow speed

PostTue Jan 09, 2018 1:08 am

I´ve been working with Resolve during three years without any problem. I was cleaning the internal and external hard drives and now it works very slow. I have trying uninstall, re-install and install again during the last two weeks without success. I´ve updated from 12.5.3 Studio version to 14.0.1 and 14.2 but it hasn't worked fine again. The program starts but it shows the thumbnails in grey color during several minutes and if I try to import any file DaVinci Resolve crash or needs 20 minutes to import 5 ProRes 444 files. I´ve created new projects and new databases with the same desperate result and updated the Desktop software too. I have been looking for in the forum during several weeks but no solution found. Please, could somebody help me?

Thanks a lot!!!!

I'm getting decent performance with a Trashcan Mac under OSX 10.12.6, but I threw 64GB of RAM at it, plus I use a 2TB SSD as the cache drive, and I have fairly fast I/O. Resolve 14 is a lot "peppier" with a 12-core processor than it is a 6-core.

You may have to try a scorched-earth policy and just wipe the drive and do a fresh install of the OS and a fresh install of Resolve by itself (no other programs), and see what happens. The slowdown could likely be due to OS issues or background programs (or just plain "bit rot"). Before you do so, make sure you backup your Project Database and also backup the individual projects as DRP files, and try importing those in the new install.

I wonder if your Pegasys is losing a drive. Have you tried another drive for source footage to see if that helps with the load time with clips?

Yes, a Blackmagic Disk Speed Test might verify whether or not the drives are malfunctioning.

Thanks a lot, Mark and Glenn!!!! Certainly, the Pegasus could lose a drive while I was cleaning it. I´ve just the a test with Blackmagic Disc Speed and looks fine but I don´t know so much about this software or drivers. I attach you a shot of the test. I´m using another external hard disc for source footage but it´s keeping slow too. It has need 10 minutes to import a ProRes 444 file of 5 minutes.
