Project Without Project.db file

I'm trying to recover a project named "Still" from a disk backup.

There is no project.db file in the Still folder, just Batch Renders.

The backup is from December 15th.

I know, however, that the project was active and valid on December 15th, based on my memory, and based on the following entry in the Resolve logs:

This is the case for some, but not all, of my other projects.

Any ideas?

I may be paranoid, but as projects are finished, I tend to export a "project_name_final.drp" file and place it on the source file drive, just in case. It's extremely rare that I ever have to use them, but it's nice to know they're there.

I also save a DRP backup every single day when I'm working on a long term project, and I'll leave those hanging around for at least 6 months until I start cleaning up old files due to space concerns.

i make DRP's every few hours
i write them to a mirrored disk set
i backup the data disk offsite every night
i never clear out old DRP's

i have DS and Flame archives, Avid attic's, Resolve DRP's, FilmMaster projects, even Cyborg2k projects going back two decades

rarely do i need to access these, but it's been asked for... recently i was asked to look at a project i graded for filmout in 2003 useing Cyborg2k, the DP prefered a new DCP be created from the files, not scanning in the flimprint, he was never happy with the print, loved the graded master

i actualy had both the project and the DPX of the reels both clean and graded on a pile of 80gig IDE drives on a shelf in the back of a fire proof cabnet.. hardest part was getting an IDE houseing to attach the drives and wiating for the dog slow transfer to my array

i still have a Cyborg2k system on an IBM with dual 993 mhz proc's and 6gig sys ram in storage, i pulled it, and it fired up and ran, but i didn't use it

did the tweaks in DS, ran out a DCP for him, it was used for lifetime retrospective of his work, and it was great to see the show presented the way we always knew it should be... finaly.... after 14 years....

ps, i'm not sad to see film prints and attendant variables recedeing in the rear view mirror

In case its relevant, want to add that there's also eleven different ATS_Still.(whole bunch of numbers) folders in the in the projects folder.

Just wanting to check if the weekday crowd had every experienced anything like this before I give up hope.

The ATS folders are certainly relevant!

Go into Resolve Preferences - User - Auto Save.

If you have ATS folders, then the List Backups button should be active. Click that.

It will show you any AutoSaved to Backup Projects you have in the current user.

If you don't see anything, try the Refresh button.

Select a project from the list and then click Load.

Oh, those are gonna work great in 2018...

From an Avid POV, I believe the current Media Composer can open *any* previous version's project.

In the ATS folders you see, is there a Project.db file in any of those?

If there is, put it on a file sharing site and provide a link, and we'll see if we can make that work.

Unfortunately, those don't appear to contain any project data.

Anything else I should try, or anywhere else I should look?

Am I thinking about this correctly that if I have a backup from Dec 15, and the logs show the project successfully opened after that, the data has to be somewhere?

If you have a backup of the Resolve Projects folder somewhere, and it has the specific project folder you are looking for, and that folder has a Project.db file in it, that's what you would want. You could copy that folder into your current User's Projects folder, which should be guest.

Right. I do have the Project folder backed up, but many projects do not have projects.db files.

And to be clear, it's not that the backups missed the files, I backup locally and via Backblaze and they show the same data.

Multiple projects are missing their projects.db files.

I can't explain how multiple projects could be missing the Project.db file.

I can MAYBE see that if Resolve crashed with a project loaded, that the Project.db file for that loaded project MIGHT go missing.

But for multiple projects missing the Project.db file, I can't imagine how Resolve could be causing that.
