Text scroll is jerky

PostFri Jan 12, 2018 12:07 pm

I am using a gtx 1080ti and in 80% it is working fine with 4K, but often, when I start playing a clip, the first 10 seconds a very jerky. Not always but often enough. Especielly when I use a text scroll. Btw: where can I change the scroll direction?? Or is it only from bottom to top?
Thanks Benn

@bennjoell

Currently to scroll a text from top to bottom with Davinci Resolve 14.2, the only solutions I found is to use the titles that offer the Keyframe Position 'Y' (unfortunately not the scrool). In addition: be careful to synchronize the length of the title with the speed of the project => avoid the effect of strobe: it must remain fluid.

Solution but expensive: Boris CC Title Studio (which I have) or other external Title editor.
(I see many who will arrive ... ;) )

I hope someone can come up with a better solution with ONLY Davinci Resolve 14.2

Thanks for your answer. But how can I synchronize the speed? My project is a 25 frames project, and yes there is a little strobe effect. How can I fix it?
Thanks Benn

If I believe some for scrolling:
for HD: ~3-4 PPF (pixels per frame)
for UHD: ~4-7 PPF (pixels per frame)
Consider the pixel size of the characters, the font, the number of lines and the spacing between the lines => calculate the height of the text in ~Px and then divide by the PPF and the FPS of the project to adjust the duration of the title.
In short: need test

But no miracle, it may be necessary to add a "motion blur"? or a shadow characters? change font ?
In short: need test

(It may be simpler but I do not know)
Good luck

Is the jerkiness there in the final render or just when viewing in the timeline?

As Peter is suggesting, usually final renders for your deliverables will be smooth. I also increase the duration for the scrolled text to ensure smoothness assuming you want people to take the time to read credits for example.

@Peter, the jerkyness is only on the timeline, not after rendering.

But after rendering it is not really smooth an readable. I think it depends of the the relations between the framerate (1/25 in my case) and the scrolltime. But I have no idea, how to change it.
