Problems with paint tracking

PostMon Jan 22, 2018 2:46 am

Following the instructions for paint tracking, I'm not able to get Fusion to work for me. I'm using Fusion 9 Studio.

1. I add a Paint tool to my footage.
2. I select the 3rd brush from the top of the brushes on the left toolbar.
3. I make sure Apply Mode is set to Color.
4. I paint over the area I want to cover.
5. I am supposed to delete "Stroke 2" - which never appears.
6. I open the Stroke Controls of Stroke 1 - even though I only see Stroke 2 (which I'm supposed to delete)
7. I right click on the Center and select "Modify With > Tracker position.
8. Tracker1 controls are supposed to appear at this point, but do not show up. So, I never get past this point.

So, how am I supposed to track a Paint stroke? Does anyone have any ideas? This is for a client, so I'm really struggling to get things done. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

What instructions are you referring to? Then I can read along with you.

Hi Sander. I followed this video tutorial:

If playback doesn't work here, search for this title at YouTube: Blackmagic Fusion: Paint Track Tutorial

Thanks for responding.

Yep. His tutorials are quite good. For some reason, I wasn't getting the same results he was, even though I followed his workflow exactly as he showed it in his tutorial.

I wish Fusion had a Paint Shape, where you could use a mask tool to draw a shape and use it to clone from the footage. Nuke has it. If Fusion has it, I haven't found it, yet.

You mean: Copy polyline? My advice is - if you haven't done so already - is to change the appearance of your buttons in the views to 'text label only'. The text labels are much more informative than the icons.
I think - based on your description - that copy polyline is the one you're looking for.
As far as I know this info *is* in the manual. And if it isn't it should be
