Drag and insert ?

PostFri Feb 09, 2018 10:08 pm

Hello,

I'm trying really hard to find this simple function on davinci for editing.

when you have a clip already on your timeline and you drag it in the middle of your sequence and it inserts it instead of overwriting.

In premiere i do it by holding ALT key while draging the clip.

That would be very usefull !

Also, is there something wrong in my configuration or is it a bug, but when i push the arrows key up/down to move to previous/next clip, davinci gets completly lost and get to beggining/end of timeline or even ramdom place :/

apart from that, i find the software very nice to use, a full linux version would be a dream.

have a nice day !

for up/down arrow keys to work make sure the little icon that looks like <> on the track is selected.

Drag the clip into the Timeline Viewer. You'll see a list of options for adding to the timeline.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

Hello Jim Simon,

Thanks for your prompt answer but this is not what i want to do.

I oftenly work (and not the only one) with some groups of clip i derushed that i place at the end of my timeline.

At the beggining of my timeline i have my WIP sequence. when i find a usefull clip in premiere, i just take it (or a group of clip if i made a mini edit that i like) from the end of my timeline and drag it and insert it in my WIP.

It's a very basic fonction so if it could be integrated, or if i miss something i would love to be taught how to do it.

have a nice day !

If the Clips are already on the Timeline, you can select them first, and use Ctrl + Shift + selected Clips while holding down left mouse click.
Now just need to drag them where you want.

For a bit of ease: disable snapping

This should really be the default behavior, and drag to overwrite should be with some modifier keys.
What strange behavior does Blackmagic sometimes introduce into the basic functions!

Hold the command key down while dragging and it will move the clip "non destructively".
This is the same as a Ripple Cut and and Ripple Paste, but much easier.
