So, I finally got me a Transcend 128 GB CFX650 card. The result is encouraging, but not 100% perfect:
– My camera is OK, since the card works flawlessly in both slots
– It records up to 30 fps uncompressed RAW 4.6K
– The eSATA adapter also records up to 30 fps RAW on a Samsung 840EVO SSD, but only in slot 2 (the rear one)
– If I have the card in slot 1 and the adapter in slot 2, I can record in parallel up to 60 fps without a hiccup
It's a good solution for me, but don't expect to have two adapters running in both slots without testing first.
BTW, my CFast to eSATA cable is from the Russian Ebay seller Videotechshop, whom I can wholeheartedly recommend for European buyers (Americans have their own sellers with similar prices). Good communication, cable length made to order, well manufactured.
I'm quite sure the limitation it's not his fault, when looking at the experiences from others. It seems to be critical to extend these slots, which is not too surprising considering the enormous speeds of data transfer and the resulting frequencies.
Oh, and it only works with the StarTech enclosure (as recommended by others), an ICY box didn't work here.
Now that the cat #19 is out of the bag, test it as much as you can and use the subforum.
