Bmpcc not heavy lenses

PostMon Feb 12, 2018 5:33 pm

I have bmpcc with metabones x0.58 and sigma 18-35. For me it`s too have. When i think about make video i have problem because it's too havy. I want to sell my metabones and sigma and buy 3 lens, for example zuiko 12mm, 17mm, 25mm (or sigma 30mm) and get classic size 35, 50, 75/90. But some people talk to me that is not good idea because metabones + sigma is better. The aperture will not be much worse than 2-1.4 against 1 at sigma. What other problems can there be and what glasses can you advise me? Thank you. I want to do something like in the picture, for shorts and home video.

For fast light weight Primes, I second Howard’s recommendation. Standard focal lengths for S16 are 10, 12, (wide FOV) 17mm (normal), 28/29, 35mm and 42/45mm (tele). Using a 50mm lens with the Speed Booster (0.58x) gives you a 29mm, I did this using Nikon version of the BMPCC SB and Zeiss ZF Primes, which are heavier than the SLR Magic when you add in the weight of the SB.

Another very light option, but a little slower f/stop wise, are the Panasonic Leica Primes, 15mm, 25mm and 45mm. The 15mm is fast, but the 25 and 45mm are f/2.8. You do get auto exposure and push to focus functions which them, and a very compact design. The Olympus 12mm f/2.0 is also very nice and small.

A zoom option (again slower than the Sigma), but half the size/weight) is the new Panny 12-60 f/2.8-4 Zoom, which has a stepless iris, is parfocal and very fast auto zoom. Both the Oly 12mm and Panny Leica lenses have very good manual focus, even if it is focus by wire. But that said, nothing beats a full manual focus lens.

But for excellent manual prime lenses, the SLRs and Voigtlanders are hard to beat.
Cheers

Give me manual lenses any day. Maybe if you've got a camera that's has great autofocus then there is a compelling case for electronic lenses but the Pocket is not it.

SLR magic isn't much easier than Sigma.

If you like it wide, here is my latest addition to my set: Laowa 7,5mm f2. Stumbled on it more or less by chance when looking for something else, tried it in a shop and had to buy it.

I really love that lens. Small, reasonable fast, sharp and no distortion (unless you love shooting charts). Works great on the BMCC as well. And it has a filter thread!

Having used it for a few shots now I realise how much I missed a real wide lens (12mm was my wides before).

I own both Olympus and SLR Magic.

I always go the SLR Magic. Optically more interesting and easier to manually focus and expose.
