Irregular Playback

PostWed Feb 21, 2018 8:57 pm

Sometimes playback works really well on a timeline with smart caching (and some optimized media) and sometimes it just doesn't get going and skips seconds not just frames. This is on the one and the same timeline I'm talking about. The same performance problem occurs simultaneously in the preview window - it either works perfectly (including JKL and double speed forwards/reverse) or badly - stopping and starting and missing frames!

Does anyone have the same problem? Has anyone discovered what determines this behaviour?

I am seeing the same performance issues on Studio 14.3 under Windows 10 Pro (1709). Rather makes the proxy process useless. (And editing very frustrating.)
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

I don't know if I am having the exact same issue, but yeah. It's not just you.

Playback performance was significantly improved on my somewhat older computer (see signature) by consolidating the edits on to only two (A/B) video tracks. It seems that more than two tracks of 4K clips caused the playback problem - notably although a third track was sparsely occupied (titles & graphics only)
