DeckLink 4K Extreme downconvert

PostFri Mar 02, 2018 1:50 pm

I have a DeckLink 4K Extreme in my z840. Am I correct that it can do a UHD to HD down convert? It seems to say that but I don't see it. And in the software under down convert that option is not there.

Any insight?

It should be in Decklink preferences: System Preference on Mac or Control Panel on PC.

I know how to bring up the desktop software I'm asking about having it do the UHD to HD down convert. It is not listed as a option in the desktop software.

Hm...what is in Processing or Conversion tab?
Do you have DeckLink 4K Extreme or DeckLink 4K Extreme 12G model?

DeckLink 4K Extreme 12G supports UHD to HD, but DeckLink 4K Extreme doesn't (only HD to SD).

Hi sorry to jump in a old thread...

Can the BM Extreme 4k 12g i/o card output simultaneously a UHD or 4k signal on one HDSDI and on the 2nd HDSDI a HD down convert?

thank you

Michael

PS My Avid can (using the black magic made Avid Artist | DNxIO) can do this but I need it for my Davinci setup!

Read product description:

"Ultra HD Down Conversion
Built in, high quality hardware down converter outputs Ultra HD to HD with down converted signal on SDI outputs C & D and HDMI output when connected to an HD only TV."

Yes I read this very carefully multiple times but that does not to me unambiguously describe what I want. My loose understanding from above is that it does a hardware downscale from UHD to HD... NOT simultaneously UHD and HD??

BUT Avid/BM box has the exact same marketing wording BUT does do simultaneously UHD and HD?? Actually my Avid branded BM box does true 4k output on one HDSDI and letterboxed HD on another which is great!

It's simultaneous. This is why HD is on SDI C/D, not main one.
If you connect HD only TV HDMI will also automatically switch to HD.

Delighted you say so but please can you explain?.... if it says Downconverted HD is on the C and D HDSDI connector and there is only 2 HDSDI outputs..what does the 4K come out of? What is the ‘main one’ you mention? I only see 2 ins and 2 outs on the back of the card...? No? The only way this makes any sense to me is if you have to buy the extra DeckLink 4K Extreme 12G - Quad SDI daughter card as well... but since you or the marketing don’t mention this I need to make sure.

Thank you

Ps do you actually have your setup doing this.. (if yes I can just dump my older extreme card and buy the 12g version) or if you are just interpreting the manual/marketing I have to make sure... sorry!

PPS or is anyone using the DeckLink 4K Extreme 12G - Quad SDI daughter card to output simultaneously HD as the main card puts out QHD/4K in there setup?

It has 4x12G SDIs and I think 1 of the firmwares made it possible to use them all as output no?
This is why manual says C&D.
Quad board is not what you want. It's just board to let you connect legacy 3G equipment which allows to pass 4K as Quad 3G-SDI signal.

Send email to BM support- they should be able to answer your question, so you can be sure (although I had bad answers from BM support as well :D )
