Using the SSD recorder in parallel to CFast?

PostMon Mar 05, 2018 11:19 am

Information on the web is a bit ambiguous about this subject, so I'd like to ask those who may already own one:
Is it true that the recorder can only be used as an alternative to SD or CFast?
Or is it possible to use it in parallel to one CFast card in either slot for higher data rates?
No, an iGPU is not enough, and you can't use HEVC 10 bit 4:2:2 in the free version.

Uli, I don’t have the SSD Recorder but I suggest you try this by mounting a CFast 2 card in slot 2 and an SSD in the recorder and then selecting a high frame rate such as 4.6K raw 60 fps. Then in the Menu, Recording, turn on dual card recording. Give it a try. I’m expecting you’ll have two folders with even frames on the CFast and odd frames on the SSD.

Uli, if memory serves me right, guys from BMD have stated here several times that it is possible to record simultaneously to CFast and SSD.
Saying "Thx for help!" is not a crime.

Thanks, folks. I was asking since we don't own a SSD Recorder yet, or I would just have tried.
But BM answered and told me it's not possible. It's either SD, or CFast or SSD.

I just tried with mine.

It does record in dual card mode with 1 cfast and 1 ssd at 4.6k 60p lossless.

It’s a lot of data though....

Hmm, that's really contradicting information, I got mine through BM UK. Thanks for testing it, Gavin!

After all, the manual says: "When URSA Mini SSD Recorder is connected and an SSD is loaded, the recorder takes over from URSA Mini's number '2' storage slot." So, number 1 should still work normally. Yes, that's a lot of data, but sometimes you'd like to get the most from the sensor – think VFX. Why should the camera have split-mode for recording in the first place?

I'm just musing over a home-made solution with a Fast to SSD adapter vs. BM's SSD recorder.

So, things have been clarified, it was a misunderstanding.
They thought I was asking about mirrored recording (which is not possible), but I meant split recording, which will work with a card in slot 1, as confirmed here. Thanks!

As I mentioned previously... sorry BMD UK misspoke on that.
