Vlans limit the passtrough of data on a connection. For instance if you have 2 switches in 2 buildings. Connected by a 1GB fiber module. And you have running 2 vlans on it.. The module will (depending on the switch) alocate a certain amount of data speed to each VLAN. So if you have 2 vlans and it cuts up the 1gb to 2x 500mbit or even less for 1 vlan.
Also i guess they will use some QoS settings to prioritise the video data.. But with Vlans it will still cut up your line speed.
