Mini monitor with Premiere audio on external device only

PostTue Mar 06, 2018 11:24 am

Hi.

I have an issue with out iMac setup editor uses.

It used to work but i'm not sure when we went wrong.
When TV is connected to Mini monitor over HDMI ist is not possible to have audio on system device i.e. earphones or system speakers which we need at times.

When in premiere all timeline audio is force to TV somehow.

Even setting it correctly in premiere does not seem to help. Just removing Mini Monitor from TB helps for now but we lose image of directors TV in such way.

Any ideas?

Hi Margus,

try to set the Audio Output in the OS Audio Settings to internal instead of the Mini Monitor.
That should be it.

Hope that helps!

I can set the Audio Output of any program inside the OS System Preferences.
On my iMac and Hackintosh these can be set to any preferred device incl. the Line-Out of the iMac...

So you see apps separately?

I only can select one audio output and even then somehow if i connect Mini Monitor system audio is gone and plays on TV if premiere works.

YouTube and other audio work as normal.

I can't see any apps, but all audio devices:

But I don't use Premiere, but FCPX and Resolve.
There might be a similar setting inside Premiere...

This seems to be a Premiere issue as it seems.

I think there's a hidden A/V-Out thing in the Premiere settings somewhere...

I don't see any other solution.
Any Premiere users?

Premiere preferences, Audio Hardware, select the audio output required in the Default Output setting dropdown menu.

Set the Mac OSX system audio out to your preferred output, NOT BMD device. Then select the Premiere audio output to your preferred output, such as system audio.

You set it in Premiere if you want audio go through BM card as well as video. If it doesn't work try different drivers version. I remember having similar issue with Mini Monitor.
Setting BM as system audio device is bad workaround.

Wait- you want opposite. BM video, but "system" audio.
Make sure it' set to Mac speakers in OSX preferences (also look at Audio Midi Setup).
In Premiere you have 2 places to setup audio:
Audio Hardware and Playaback tab. Look at both and make sure it's not set to BM anywhere there. There are quite few settings which may affect it.

Other work around (for non critical monitoring) is to create "Multi-Output Device" in Audio Midi Setup:
1. Open Audio Midi Setup
2. Click on the + at the bottom and choose "Create Multi-Output Device":

Image

In my case it's Mac speakers and DragonFly DAC

For BM make sure you set sampling to 48KHz!

3. Open Premiere and in Audio Hardware choose this as default device for playback:

and Map Output to Adobe Desktop Audio

4. In Playback setting make sure that Audio Device is set to "Adobe Audio Device":

this should give you audio from both- BM card (so your TV) and Mac speakers/headphones.

I tried it with my DragonFly and it worked fine. There may be some issue as BM is multichannel device, but it should work for stereo. If it works you don't have to keep switching anything- you always have output on both devices (just mute not needed one for given time).

Hi.

Thanks a lot for such derailed explanation.

I surely missed Playback options even if they where mentioned few times.

Thanks for everybody bearing with me!
