Sound playback in fusion?

PostTue Jan 13, 2015 10:58 am

Hi everyone. I'm an After Effects and Maya user working with a lot of motion graphics. Just started to learn Fusion, and I have to admit I'm pretty excited about what you can achieve with this software. The only problem is I can't find a way to insert sound into my comp. There is a speaker icon but It doesn't work for me for some reason. My question is if you can tell me how to make a sound clip play in the back? I do not need to render it out, I just need to animate in time properly.

Welcome to Fusion!

You need to browse for the sound file in the saver, there is an audio option.
if your audio isn't cut perfectly for the comp, you can offset it there.

You will only get smooth audio playback once the comp is cached, but can hear enough while scrubbing to help with timing.

Have fun!

Using saver node to load a file. That's an... ummm... unusual solution
Anyway, works great, thank you so much. Having fun already :)

Its from legacy feature support, that was to save audio out to your QT/AVI file, scrubbing and playback came later.

I've follow the steps above, but I can't seem to get anything to play. On Fusion 8.

Hi Vance on Fusion 8 there is no need to even use the saver node, just right click the speaker icon and select choose from the pop up and select your audio file. Remember to set the time line to the length of the track if you want to hear all of it. I think the audio has to be a WAV file and for best results try to use an uncompressed audio file so the processor doesn't have too much work to do to decode it.

Awesome! I linked an MP3 so that's probably why it won't play. I try to covert it.

If it's in the saver, it will be encoded into your output .mov

I haven't done this in a while, but I seem to recall that the sample rate and depth affected the smoothness of the audio playback. I forget if it was related to the comp frame rate or if it was just better to do as low bitrate as possible, but it pays to try some variations.

hello... I'm getting everyday better with fusion and I love it. Small HUGE problem, can't find a way to handle audio, whenever I choose an audio track (from the loader itself or as an external file) the framerate goes to 1fps*second.
I'm on a mac. Please help me :o

What audio format are you using?
WAV file or FLAC should be working fine.
If you're using something like m4a, it may not work.
So I suggest converting your audio file to WAV.

Same problem here. I am using .wav! Preview framerate drops to 1 fps if audio is enabled (using the speaker button at the playback/timeline tool bar. If audio is turned off framerate is at 30fps. The comp just has two tools: A Loader connected to a Saver.

I'm having same problem where frame rate drops to 1fps with audio on. With audio off it returns to normal frame rate (24fps). File is a wav. I'm using Fusion 9 free version.
