Render Cache not working with shared database

PostThu Mar 22, 2018 4:56 pm

Hi,

We are new to Resolve Studio so please forgive me if this is a basic question, but...

We are very keen on working with a shared database as it seems great, but the thing that is stopping us at the moment is that render cache does not seem to work unless we are working with a local database.

Without doing any grading or Sapphire effects we get real-time playback, but as soon as we have these on, we do not.

Smart caching seems to work very well with these heavier shots when the database is local.

Any guidance appreciated.

Cheers

Sadly I don't think there is anything you can do. I have the same problem and have not been able to find a workaround. Hoping it is fixed in the next version.

Hi,

In our case, we are using shared database, but render cache are created on local drives. On that way we don't have any problem (Resolve 14.3)

And you, are the render cache locally on or network ?

Thanks for reply, Nathan and Christophe.

Render cache is set to local, so that is good to hear and perhaps there is a way then?

Could there be other setting elsewhere which may be stopping it working for us?

Sorry, this may have been my bad as I don't think I read the question fully. Render cache works fine with a shared database on both local and network storage.

Render caching does not work with collaborative projects. Sorry about that I read shared and I thought you meant collaborative!

Ah well I think that answers the question though, Nathan.

I hadn't appreciated that you could have a shared database with or without collaboration, I thought you needed it on to make a shared database work. We were wanting to use collaboration for when we were up against it and needing to have 2 people working on it at the same time, but this wont be all the time so I am guessing (and will test it tomorrow) that we can just turn collaboration mode on and off accordingly, and at least I know that we wont be able to use caching when this is on.

This is better than nothing, but it would be great to have caching in collaborative mode!

Thanks again.
