Internal audio delay in Television Studio HD soon possible?

PostWed Apr 11, 2018 3:53 pm

Hi,

seeing as the new Television Studio 4k has received an option to put a delay on the XLR input I was wondering if this will be possible for the TVS HD as well. Might this be possible via a software/firmware update? Or is hardware (e.g. audio chips) needed for this and thus the TVS HD will always rely on external delay hardware?

Cheers

It might be a software update.. It might be a Hardware fix.. No-one knows until BMD comes with this in a firmware update.. (Or not)

its only 4 frames of delay and only for the xlr inputs...sometimes not enough for my situations. I still think external audio all the way is the best workflow.

Even with external audio mixing you need delays most of the time as many cameras have large internal fixed processing delays from sensor to SDI output. This needs to be compensated. Framesyncs and converters add more delay to video path.

So it would be an good idea to add audio delay options the all ATEM models where possible.

it'd be a software update, as the atem mixer is merely a large fpga...
audio delay would be an extra function tacked on the existing mixer dsp module of that fpga

Instead of speculating, can someone with a TVS HD report if it's already possible to activate audio delay?

In the manual this is explicitly mentioned for the 4k version, if I remember correctly, which made me think that it's a 4k exclusive feature.

Well it all depends if they have room left in some memory that is connected to the FPGA to store and forward that audio.. If all memory is alocated already it won't be possible at all.. ;)

It would be great if at least delay and simple audio channel routing/mixing/panning could be implemented even on the older/other ATEM models.
No need to do other audio processing like EQ or dynamic range there.
