Davinci Studio+Fusion 15 license

PostMon Apr 16, 2018 11:27 am

Hi all,
I've just ordered my Da Vinci 14 dongle because I want to learn the program and test all the 15 beta release features.
In the future, when the final version will be released, I will have to buy the Fusion dongle?

regards.

Resolve 15 will sport a reduced set of Fusion features, so R15/Fusion is not the full Fusion.

When released, the Resolve dongle will activate the full Resolve/Fusion.
Also the Fusion dongle will activate Resolve/Fusion, and Fusion itself.

What i'm puzzled about, is if the Resolve dongle will activate a future Fusion standalone...
This would let me keep a dongle on the laptop and a dongle on the home PC.

We'll see :)

ok,

I think that Fusion will never live alone.
I copy paste what I've found on the Blackmagic web site:

"Now you can get DaVinci Resolve Studio for only $299, which is 50% less than the cost of popular cloud subscriptions. Plus, you get full nonlinear editing, advanced color correction, Fusion effects and motion graphics, and Fairlight audio tools, all included in the one easy to buy solution. It’s like getting 4 high end professional applications for the cost of one!"

The most plausible explanation why the Fusion dongle can be used for Resolve Studio 15 is that Fusion standalone will reach its end very soon. Possibly, BMD releases a final Fusion Studio "enthusiast edition" for all those who prefer the classcial workflow.

I would like a little advice too, I'm going to buy Davinchi Resolve 15, but should I just buy Fusion instead
and get the dongle which also activates DR15 so I have 2 products or will it give me problems later if Fusion standalone ends?
Thank you for any advice. :)

My opinion is that BM would make a very bad move in putting Fusion standalone to the grave.
Standalone Fusion will be the choice for pipeline artists, that will live the Resolve embedding like a constraint. In fact, the embedded Fusion suffers of a few limitations and is not "as direct as" the standalone version.

Neverthless, the embedded Fusion is crazy good for quick and dirty compositing directly into the NLE, without jumping here and there. And it makes sense that it has fewer features, tailored around the NLE integration.

Then, unless BM lost its interest in seeing Fusion as a VFX industry standard (i.e. letting Nuke dominate the world once again) Fusion must continue its existence IMO.

That said, it makes sense that the Fusion dongle will activate the embedded Fusion (that would be really annoying if not) and it makes sense if the Resolve dongle will NOT activate the standalone Fusion.
If we start seeing Resolve dongles activating the standalone Fusion, then it will be time to think about a standalone death.

Thank you for your reply very informative, and if Nuke dominates again it will also never have a price drop right as now its too expensive.

Sorry if my post upset you, it was not my intention. It's obvious that Nuke IS dominating the market, mine was intended as sarcasm. But with a hope in the future.

8k for nukex thats crazy

Hope BMD keep the fusion alive, I liked the idea of fusion/Resolve integration, but if the fusion in resolve is not full version that would be sad.
