Media Express crashes with intensity Pro 4k and hdmi

PostThu May 03, 2018 5:14 pm

hi,

i just installed the card and did some tests. Except with my handycam Sony, all video sources connected to the hdmi input of the board lead to crash Media Express when i click on the "log and capture tab".

i tested with these devices:

- Akira receiver TNT which refuse to go on.
- Pop corn hour multimedia player which crashes Media Express.
- Nvidia gtx 780 ti graphics card which crashes Media Express too.
- Sony handycam FDR-AX33 works

Analog yuv video inputs work.

I installed the latest drivers and i work on Windows 7 Pro.

What is the pb ?

Thanks.

Hi,

No one has an idea of my problem ?

Can the IP4K really capture video form a graphics card via hdmi ?

Under Linux, things are a little different: MediaExpress show the video when i click on "log and capture" but crash when i begin capture. If (at least under Linux) it can show the video signal from the HDMI input, this means HDCP is not the cause, isn't it ?

I am very disappointed by this card at this time. It seems like software are buggy, even Davinci Resolve v15 that i can crash too easily.

Thanks,

Willy.

The HDMI transfer of 4K is going to depend on the data rate. UHD up to 30fps should fly on current HDMI standard, but probably not any data rate above this. The video stream is not compressed like a codec is, so it takes more bandwidth. Saying a device can do 4K is also somewhat ambiguous, as you have UHD 4K and full DC 4K, which is even higher data rates. Sounds like yiu May be having a computer issue with the software.

hi,

thank you for your reply.

Watch the video i made (add "watch?v=hZLo8FMM8YY" after youtube address): you will understand what's happening with the board and this is not normal.

My PC is rather old but I can capture video in 720p60 with my Sony HandyCam via HDMI without pb. In 1080p60, i lose frames but it works and with UHD, MediaExpress complaint about low speed but it didn't crash.

So the only device that work is my Sony HandyCam which don't have HDCP (i suppose,... but who knows the limits of the human stupidity). The others have.

Can someone try to capture his Graphics card with this board via HDMI to see if it works or not ?

Thanks,

Willy.

Hi,

i found the problem: this is not relative to the HDCP protection but to the pixel format used by the source video: By default, my graphics card is configured to output in RGB. But this pixel format crashes MediaExpress. I need to change the pixel format of my graphics card to YUV 8 bits in the Nvidia configuration panel, and this works and i can capture video.

Apparently, my Sony HandyCam is the only one device i tested that outputs to this format.

For me, only the YUV-8bits works. is it normal ?

Thanks,

Willy.

All pro video is YUV based.. So yes that makes sense. ;)
