frequent crashes without error message

PostThu May 24, 2018 6:48 am

I get extremely frequent crashes without any error message.
Mostly they happen short after I run Resolve.
I grab timelineruler and after moving it in few directions Resolve freezes with Windows "thinking icon" and then crashes.
Sometimes it happens when I right-click on the compound clip and select "open in timeline".
Mostly no fancy Fusion compositions but PNG or EXR sequences.

Resolve 15.0.0B.043
Windows 10 - 17134 build
Intel i7 4770K
Gigabyte Z97XSOC
16GB RAM
various SSD disks
NVIDIA driver - 391.01
there are 3 GPU on the system:
2 X GTX 980Ti
1 X GTX 780

Resolve is set to use CUDA on those 980Ti cards. 780 is excluded.

If you need any more info to provide I'd be glad to help.

Unfortunately, there is no debug crash data in any of the crash logs.

Is Resolve hanging? Or crashing to the desktop? Or is the computer itself crashing and/or restarting?

Resolve hangs for 2 secconds showing "windows thinking icon" then it just closes to the desktop.
What's interesting is, it happens with B02 too.

I'm installing B01 to check this issue.

I discovered that it happens most frequently with image sequences (when moving time ruler over sequence). More likely with PNG, less likely with TIFF or EXR. Moving ruler over mp4 or mov almost doesn't crash the software.

Open Compound clip in timeline almost always crashes Resolve too.

What is even more interesting is this:
crashes happen mostly just after I run Resolve and open project.

After some time and moving a ruler on the mp4/mov footage, Resolve starts working properly.
Well it can crash eventually, but less likely.

Do you have any suggestion on Nvidia driver we should use while working on 980Ti??
Maybe this would be an issue?

Do you have any other suspicions?
Is there any test I can run to figure it out?

Try physically removing the 780.

I found what's causing the issue.
It's compound clips.

Whenever I create compound clip with image sequence and try to move time ruler over it - it crashes.
If I make compound clip with footage. Time ruler can move over it.
But!

But if I try to open compound clip in timeline, Resolve crashes each time.

It happened in Beta3 and it happens in Beta 4 as well.
