180° 3D Camera / Fisheye Camera

PostThu May 31, 2018 8:56 pm

I'm surprised to see that Fusion does not seem to have the capability to render with a 180° dome camera?

Does anyone know how to get a 180° 3D camera in to Fusion's 3D space?

Trying to render like the attached image...

Thanks!

Here's what I need to be able to do in Fusion with the NEW Spherical VR Camera...

Anyone know how I might be able to do this in Fusion?

Hey guys/gals, I just wanted to share a nice solution to my issue that I figured out.

I was able to us RE:Map to convert lat-long to fisheye by generating a fisheye UV map with Arnold.

Now I can comp in 3D and render 180 fisheye!

So I can stop giving myself a headache with all of this spherical geometry? :)

I can't say I was anywhere close to a solution yet, so that's good news.

edit: Actually, I should have thought of that before. You could do it even without Re:Map just using Fusion's Texture tool (though I'd hazard a guess that Re:Map probably has better filtering). I've rendered UV lens maps like that in the past; I'm not sure why it didn't occur to me to suggest it for you. Maybe because I was fixated on a Fusion-only solution.

Hey Bryan, yeah! I'm sure the math behind these types of distortions is a little tricky!

Yeah I tried Fusions texture tool and displace tool and I wasn't able to get as clean of results as with RE:Map... Didn't really get displace to work right at all...

Thanks again it still would be cool to see how this kind of thing could be done with the Custom Tool.
