15b5 Crashing when loading media into timeline

PostThu Jun 14, 2018 4:01 pm

Hello. I'll post this here in case anyone is getting the same issue.

What I've done so far:
    Made backup of database
    Installed Davinchi 15b5 (upgrading 15b4)
Tried to load a complex project (DR crashes)
Tried to load a simple project (DR crashes)
Create a new project. Project opens.
Add media to the new project, then drag the media to a new timeline (DR crashes)
Created a new database. new project still crashes when dragging media to timeline.

Next, I'll try to install 15b4 again to see if that still works, then I'll try the upgrade again. If it still does not work I'll probably wait for the next beta version to try again.

Same results after trying the upgrade again. I was able to start logging this time before the crash so I could gather logs.

I have been getting a 'Fairlight Interface version in library doesn't match with what is used in Resolve' error when launching Resolve since version 15b4. I was hoping this version would help get rid of that error.

Here is the end of the ResolveDebug.txt from the logs. I'm not sure this means anything.

Please provide us a proper Resolve log file to examine:

viewtopic.php?f=32&t=71894

Does Resolve crash if you select a file on the Media page, or can you select a file on the Media page and see it in the Viewer?

If Resolve is crashing when you select media files, that's an indication that there is not a valid GPU available. Are you getting any GPU warning messages when you start Resolve?

FWIW: On my system I never get good results with these betas by doing 'upgrades' over the top of an existing install. Only via a 'clean' install: power-uninstall previous version & all prefs (eg: IObit uninstaller), clean the registry, re-boot. Then fresh install of the new version. Hope that might help.

No GPU warning at launch. I do get a 'Fairlight Interface version in library doesn't match with what is used in Resolve' warning, but I've also gotten that error with version 15b4. I've tried uninstalling the Fairlight Audio Accelerator Utility along with Davinchi Resolve, deleting the registry entry Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Blackmagic Design and then re-installing Resolve, but I still get the same error.

Currently, I can launch a new project and import media while on the Edit tab. As soon as I try to preview the file, move the clip to the timeline, or switch to the media tab, it crashes. That does sound like the valid GPU issue you mentioned. I'll look around in my settings to see if anything looks odd.

Thank you!

It looks like it sees my GPU. https://www.dropbox.com/s/7wpt77qqgcaes ... U.png?dl=0

The GPU Processing Mode is set to Auto.

What was interesting is that if I import a small ProRes 422 PRoxy file I can add the file to the timeline and switch to the media tab with no issues. As soon as I try the same thing with an H.264 file I get a crash.

Update on my testing/troubleshooting:

I uninstalled DR, Fairlight, Panels, and then deleted the registry key. I noticed I still had C:\Program Files\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve with 1,721 files in it. I renamed that directory as DR-Old just in case I needed it, and then reinstalled Resolve. The Fairlight error on launch is gone, and now I can open my old projects.

I don't think this is a Resolve issue, unless there is something that can be added to the upgrade to make sure all old files are deleted on and uninstall/upgrade.

I think my issue stems from when I cloned my C drive to move my installs to a new SATA. It looks like my old programs and features entry for Resolve was not associated with the cloned directory and did not delete the program files when I uninstalled/upgraded.

So, it looks like I'm working. Not sure if anyone else may get the same error when cloning a drive and then upgrading to a new version, or if I'm just the rare case.
