Video stream breaking up when showing graphics

PostFri Jul 27, 2018 8:10 pm

Hi there. We are streaming video thru YouTube using the Blackmagic Design UltraStudio HD Mini. When we stream our live video feed everything is fine, but the minute we start combining graphics into our feed (PDF's documents, etc), the video stream starts breaking up sporadically, sometimes even affecting the audio feed. We are using a Mac Pro laptop for bringing the graphics into our stream, and we are in the process of troubleshooting our problem, but would be very grateful if anyone out there has any ideas on why this may be happening? Thank you very much.

YouTube has some restrictions to streaming graphics to it. Check out what they are and make sure what yiu are trying to send co forms do their requirements.

My first guess would be that Youtube is not handling your graphics very well. Have you tried streaming to any other video platforms ? (twitch, facebook, periscope)

Much appreciated Bas, this is the same thing Denny said. We are looking into it. And no, so far we have been doing all of our streaming using YouTube, which is what we prefer, and would prefer using. Thanks again.

I will report back after we look into that. In any case, if anyone else has any other possible ideas, please do let me know.

Thanks a lot!

How are you getting your graphics into the stream

Are you doing this upstream or downstream
Is you video output going to the Mac then to YouTube
Or is it right out of the hyperdeck to YouTube

Dear Kevin, thanks a lot for taking the time to reply, I've been very busy this last week and just getting to this right now. In answer to your questions:

Are you doing this upstream or downstream: we are doing this upstream
Is your video output going to the Mac then to YouTube: yes, that is correct, its going to the Mac from the BlackMagic Design UltraStudio HD Mini, thru the thunderbolt cable. The video feed comes into the BlackMagic via SDI cable.
Or is it right out of the hyperdeck to YouTube: no [/quote]

Please do let me know if you have any suggestions. Thanks so much!

I am not 100% sure but I think the USB cable is for updates only
Just to let you know I have been wrong before
Someone please correct me
Or is this a feature I did not know about

My set up uses an atem TVS. It has a USB output for streaming
I do all my graphics in the atem
My hyperdeck mini is used only for recording
I have VMix social as my backup
If both of those die I then upload my recording with a time delay of 30 min or so

You might want to invest in a web presenter That machine is dedicated for streaming
If might solve your problems

I know it has been a while, but I just realized I never posted a resolution to this issue. So better late than never.

So I want to report that the problem I was having was related to the laptop computer I was using to send the graphics to the Blackmagic and Wirecast. We were using a Macbook Pro, so we tried a Windows laptop - we are now using a Dell with Windows 10, and this fixed our problem -- the graphics now show smoothly and without any glitches in our streams. Thanks again for all the help! :D
