Solutions for external 4K monitoring without selling kidney?

I use DeckLink 4K MiniMonitor on my PC, and I use UltraStudio MiniMonitor with my laptop.

MiniMonitor helps a lot when I'm traveling, but the problem is: with a laptop, only 1080 can be translated, not 4K. Sometimes it's a pain

Does any solution for external 4K monitoring exist aside of $1000 UltraStudio 4K - something portable and reasonable in price, like MiniMonitor but with 4K resolution?

If you want to keep your kidney, why not check color and contrast fidelity in HD and use a cheap UHD screen to check sharpness? Seriously, I don't know anything for really low-cost fidelity.

Yep, the laptop works pretty well with 4K.

One of the solution would be to buy TB3 expansion box+cheap 4K BM PCI-E card, like DeckLink Mini Monitor 4K. Problem is that whole thing gets bit convoluted. Cost would be around 500$ though.

Why not? You set monitoring to Data Levels in Resolve setting. Should work, but also may be problematic depending on TV.

One more question please.
Seems like MiniMonitor slowing down the playback. When it is disconnected, I have realtime 30fps, when it is connected, I have something like 5-9fps. Is it normal?

It will slow down, but it should be more like 5-10%.
There seems to be issues on some systems with BM preview.

Make sure you have fairly latest GPU drivers (make sure compute GPU is fast one, not Intel).
Look at your main Resolve preferences, User/Playback Settings. Select both options: Hide UI Overlays and Minimum interference. Note that 1st one affects LUTs behaviour. Read on forum about it.
There may be some issues with the way how data travels from your GPU to BM card (due to your thunderbolt non-direct path).
