Convert R to Z

PostFri Aug 10, 2018 12:03 am

Hiya, I am trying use rendered Z data in a Depth node. I have checked the channel works by viewing it in PDplayer, but when reading it into Fusion I can't find the channel. Is there any fix that pops into mind?

Pipe the image where R is representing Z into a Channel Boolean node.
- "Enable Extra Channels" in the Aux Channels tab
- The first entry is "To Z Buffer"
- Instead of "Do Nothing" choose "Red FG"

The color channels can be set to Copy as operation and black for the rest.

You can also set the channel in the Loader, assuming you've rendered an EXR. In the Format tab, spin down the Channels nest, and you can put whichever channel you like from the EXR into any of the recognized Fusion channels. This is useful if the channel has an unrecognized name. Some renderers give channels really strange names like "#0013#Object Buffer 0.Y" (Redshift for Cinema4D), which Fusion can't parse. If that's the case, then ChannelBooleans won't help because the data's not in the place where Fusion would expect it.
