Good review and answers a lot of questions. Thanks for posting. One thing is a slight concern and that is the amount of time you tested writing to the media. 15 seconds may not be enough. I think I usually test one to three minutes.

He was unfamilar with the interface and while he thought everything was writing well to his card he didn't know what the red excalmation point was.

It means he was getting dropped frames. So those tests are fairly meaningless.
