- Real Name: Josh Hayes
First off, hi everyone My name is Josh Hayes and I'm new to the Black Magic forums. I'm also a little new to using Black Magic devices (though I did used to use an Ultra Studio Mini Recorder 5 or so years ago) but most recently it's a Video Assist a year ago, and now (and I'm very excited) my first switcher the ground level ATEM Switcher (that costs 1K, not the fancier even more awesome ones.
Ok, so here's a really brief description and I'm also uploading a video that i filmed on my phone detailing my setup, the problem, and the steps I've taken to troubleshoot it (for 8 or 9 hours) that once it's done I'll post a link to. I have a conference tomorrow that I would be DELIGHTED to use it for, and while it's prob unlikely with such little time from me to get this on the forums and ask folks, I still want to ask.
Brief description: ATEM Switcher setup went seamlessly. Downloading the software, connecting the IP address, etc... From a hardware standpoint, the switcher works perfectly. I have two cameras going into it, both are visible and working fine, and the ethernet connection to my computer is working fine too. I can completely control it in the ATEM Software Control app (switch cameras, add graphics, color bars, fades, etc...). But it will not allow me to see the video or capture it on my computer. The computer or the app or both do not read a video signal. All I get in that program is the CONNECT A BLACK MAGIC CAPTURE DEVICE. Doesn't read it in Desktop Video either. Also I'm on a MacBook Pro, which is old but functions great for me still (I don't edit a lot of 4K footage) that is mid 2011. I just want to capture my live edit. I'm also open to other ways there might be to capture it or solve this problem. I do have a MultiView Out to a Black Magic Video Assist but that can only capture the full multi view. Not the final edit.
Troubleshooting: (all suggestions I read online)
-I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the software a bunch of times. And I've also done so in order to get Apple's Security and Permissions settings to prompt me to enable "trusting" Black Magic programs.
-I've tried upgrading to High Sierra from Sierra.
-I'm tried downgrading to the Desktop Video recommended in the software manual (10.9.5) instead of the newest version.
-i've tried going into recovery mode, getting to command line and disabling the security permissions for apps setting.
So far none of these things will just get my Mac to see the video! Is it something to do with USB? My main laptop has a USB 2.0 connection. So I thought maybe it was that. But I also have a 2012 MBP and it has Usb 3.0 capability and that didn't work. Same exact say setup that got working quickly, same exactly 1 problem.
I would be SO THANKFUL for some help
