Studio 15.1.1 rendering fails with Error 6

I had a render fail today using Studio 15.1.1 with the following message:
The GPU failed to perform image processing because of an error.
Error Code: 6

What does this mean?

I am using an i7-8700K with a GTX 1080Ti with Windows 10 Pro (1803).

Where do you find the error message?

I had several random render failures today, on an earlier version, after Windows installed an update yesterday, but I don’t know where to look for diagnostic messages.
