SSD recorder and monitoring?

Hi,
we use the Ursa mini pro 4.6 camera, combined with the SSD extension.
We also have the blackmagick 4K monitor.
However, when recording to the SSD, monitoring externally is not possible (well, we cannot)

Are there any users around that have found a way in doing so?
Some more brilliant spirits?

You could use the Front SDI (HD only) to monitor if you are not already using that for an EVF.

Yes Rick, that works fine.
But no 4K output from there.. would be better to check the focus.

Your mileage may vary, but using the focus assist functions available may suffice. Either focus peaking or coloured lines. If you have some static areas (not in motion), the coloured lines in Low should nail your focus. Coloured lines on high are very unreliable. I usually shoot Coloyred lines on medium but at today’s shoot, I’ll be using Low Red lines. Denny prefers White Focus Peaking and sometimes that is better.

There is no way to send Ultra HD to the monitor when you are connected to the URSA Mini SSD Recorder.

When connected the camera actually detects the SSD recorder and switches the SDI In and Out across to a be a data link with the SSD recorder. People have previously suggested looping through the signal to a monitor but this will not work as the SDI connections are communicating via data when the SSD is attached and not an SDI video signal at all.

This is how the SSD recorder can actually record in 4.6K ProRes, 4.6K Blackmagic RAW or Cinema DNG and can do off speed recordings too, rather than just recording a 2160p or 1080p video signal.

Your alternative would be connecting a SSD by a CFast to eSATA cable and piggyback the SSD to your battery.
I did that successfully, if you need instructions just PM.
Maybe AI can help you. Or make you obsolete.

Will it record with as fast bitrate as the SSD reader are able to?

Hello there,

I wanted to catch up on that topic as I will purchase the URSA Broadcast soon.

The setup should include the EVF, SSD recorder and the Video Assist running simultaneously.

As the rear SDI IOs are both in use by the SSD recorder, there is only the front SDI left.

My idea was to use a converter or splitter in between the front SDI output and the EVF, so both the EVF and the Video Assist will receive the same feed. In my theory, this should work fine, what do you guys think? Or maybe someone already tried?!

The only concern I have is about some metadata for the EVF embedded in the SDI signal which might get lost when it's passed through a simple 1>2 (non BMD branded) splitter box.

I'd really appreciate your answer! :D
