BMPCC 4k EVF zoom

PostFri Jan 04, 2019 2:41 pm

The zoom the focus on the camera's EVF defaults to 2x. Is there way to zoom more than 2x?

First off, the BMPCC 4K does not have an EVF, it has a rear monitor screen. As far as I know, Zoom to focus is limited to 2X, which gives a 100 percent image, so no real advantage to zooming in more.
The BM Ursa Mini EVF is also limited to a 2X Zoom in.

Denny, yes I meant the built in monitor. I think a monitor qualifies as an 'electronic viewfinder' even if a narrower definition is often applied.

It can be useful to zoom beyond the point where the monitor reveals full resolution of the sensor - this is because the eye can have difficulty discerning details at the pixel density of modern monitors. Especially if the user is near sighted. Blowing up the image helps.

Seems like it would be a simple and useful feature to add via firmware.

I agree!

It is very hard to know if you are in perfect focus on that small screen and the tap-to-focus is not reliable. To be able to zoom in 5x or 10x with successive pushes on the zoom button (as on Canon DSLRs) would be really great.
As i see it, there is no downside to this.
