the video link is broken but I managed to get the link lol. But this is stupid, there are no 8k monitors especially for consumers. Who are they trying to market to?

Can I call this?

Its a mobile phone inside a camera. 30FPS 8K @ 8bits (ZERO DR), recording in H.265.
If it was recording 10 bit they would offer ProRes.

I think; smart (& intelligent) Youtube'rs will use the 8K on their phones, and give this a miss. A smart phone & Blackmagic CDNG is all you need in your bag. (+ V Lock bettery).

It was funny reading the comments of all those excited YouTubers - as if an 8k camera somehow magically will turn their content into gold.
Saying "Thx for help!" is not a crime.

"super lightweight"
"looks similar to Pocket 4k"
same ports as Pocket 4k...

...why am I thinking that "prototype" is an empty plastic shell with some ports and a lens mount glued in place? :)

It's interesting - I'm not a big fan of h.265 (at least as I've used it in the GoPro 7). I hope it does well - but image quality will be what matters.

On the bright side, those same filmmakers will drive demand for 8K monitors which will help to drive down the cost of 4K HDR monitors for the rest of us ;)

Australian Image wrote:All photography sites are now reporting on this and they are consistent with the information, such as it uses a m4/3 sensor and removable lens. It's not in the least bit inconceivable, given that Panasonic have been actively working on an 8K camera for some years. And given the price being sub-US$5000, the price is indicative of such a camera.

And apparently Canon is at it as well: https://nofilmschool.com/8K-Canon-EOS-R-Reports.

Now you only need a lens that is sharp enough for those tiny pixels (~ 2.25 um), haven't found one yet in the sub $ 25.000 range.

Check this link: https://www.lensrentals.com/blog/2017/10/the-8k-conundrum-when-bad-lenses-mount-good-sensors/ and you will see that the Zeiss Otus 85 mm at F4 is just good enough for a Helium 8k sensor (3.65 um). The Otus 85 is the highest scoring lens at http://www.lenscore.org/ overall and at resolving power.

I've got to say, with the usual crowd here.

It's good how it looks like the original pocket rather than the pocket 4k, but the less ports are not so good.

There are mobile phones doing 48 mp coming out on a 0.8 micron pixel Sony imager with tiny lenses. Nokia did it too. I think they can do it. Apparently its easier to get bigger lenses to do higher resolution rather than smaller.
